Nextil Group said this would allow it to strengthen its commitment to innovation and sustainability by concentrating its production facilities of Dogi and Ritex in El Masnou, Barcelona. The KEUPE acquisition will allow Nextil to increase the production capacity of its luxury garments unit by 20%, with a proprietary manufacturing model where the group controls the production of garments under common quality standards. KEUPE, located in Ponte de Lima, is Nextil's third acquisition in the country. In 2018, Nextil bought SICI93 and Playvest, based in Braga and with work facilities in VilaVerde, Vizela, and Braga. In the luxury segment, Nextil says it is developing collections with higher added value and volume. Manuel Martos, CEO of Nextil Group, says: "This is a very important operation for Nextil to continue driving forward the garment business unit with significant business growth in the strategic market of luxury". In 2021, the group recorded a positive operating result of EUR0.048m in the first nine months of the year, compared to losses of EUR8m in the previous year. Despite the increase in the price of raw materials, energy and transport, EBITDA grew by 498% to EUR3.2m. Nextil says both sales and profitability improved significantly in the period due to a focus on higher value-added segments and the optimisation measures implemented by the group. The garment unit, specifially, achieved EUR2.4m EBITDA in the third quarter, compared to EUR0.6m in 2020, with a revenue increase of over 57% compared to the previous year. EBITDA margin grew from 20.8% in 2019 to 26.7% in the first nine months of 2021.]]> Nextil has acquired KEUPE in Portugal which specialises in the production of luxury garments in a EUR225,000 deal.

New York-based American Exchange Group says it acquires Aerosoles with the mission of harmonising its elevated core with broader commercial opportunities in distribution. The acquisition will drive significant growth opportunities for the company as American Exchange Group introduces the brand to new categories, with what it calls a continued unwillingness to compromise on Aerosoles brand vision and quality control. "This acquisition marks an exciting new chapter in the evolution of American Exchange Group. We look forward to supporting the future growth of this brand and are excited to welcome Aerosoles into our brand portfolio," says CEO Alen Mamrout.
Steve Velasquez, chief strategy officer, adds: "Our strategy is to have the Aerosoles brand function as a separate division to ensure the focus on the core brand DNA that has made Aerosoles such a great name in the footwear category. We are pleased that the team from Aerosoles will be joining our organisation to execute our vision." The acquisition comes after American Exchange Group partnered with Aerosoles in October on a value footwear line. The collection is slated to launch this spring.

It is also counting on being able to expand its structure, increasing its team and developing in the American market. Pyratex makes sustainably produced fabrics from agricultural waste products such as banana leaves and sustainable seaweed. The Spanish startup has closed its second funding investment round led by Waveform Investments, SL, and three new investors: Javier Alonso, Julio Cousillas and Patricia Camarero. These investors will have an advisory role in which they will be able to contribute to the growth of Pyratex thanks to their backgrounds in the fashion and business industry, the start-up says. The funding round comes after one in 2019 which saw Asics Venture Capital and two strategic investors, Sébastien Lefebvre and Felipe Carrasco, financially contribute to Pyratex’s growth. They are all investing again in this second round.

Waste to fibre

Established in 2014 and led by Regina Polanco, Pyratex (Pyrates Smart Fabrics) has developed a range of natural knitted fabrics for the sportswear, underwear, athleisure and ready-to-wear markets. Fabrics are made from fibres such as seaweed, nettle and agricultural waste from banana production. The firm says it has secured partnerships with brands AZ Factory, Pepe Jeans, Phillip Lim and Nicholas Kirkwood, to provide textiles for functional and environmentally friendly garments.  Pyratex works in partnerships with fashion creators that wish to advance the direction of natural innovation and the use of sustainably sourced fabrics.  The start-up participated in the first edition of Asics' Tenkan-Ten programme designed to offer support to innovative start-ups in the sports and wellbeing sector through a combination of mentoring, networking and financial support.   ]]>
