Widening its scope beyond sustainable and premium materials, the Lectra Group’s newly added Supply Chain Discovery module traceability solution now includes encompasses conventional materials as well as sustainable and premium materials.

TextileGenesis says this means it is offering a comprehensive tool for the fashion industry to trace the origin of all materials used in their products.

The traceability solution developed by TextileGenesis claims to provide a reliable, secure, and fully digitised chain of custody for materials.

This enhancement aims to empower TextileGenesis users to meet traceability requirements for all the materials they use on a unified platform.

The Supply Chain Discovery module is said to take a tailored approach to conventional materials. Unlike the real-time transaction-based tracking of sustainable materials through the fibre to retail module, Supply Chain Discovery operates in a declarative mode, tracing the supply chain backwards from the finished product to intermediate players across the value chain.

The platform can also record information from certified external bodies conducting traceability tests on samples.

Amit Gautam, founder and CEO of TextileGenesis explains: “The fashion value chain is extremely long, comprising five or six levels, generally in several countries. For a product as simple as a cotton T-shirt, there can be as many as 10 organisations involved, from cotton farming to retailing. In this context, mapping the entire value chain of a garment and ensuring the traceability of its origin is extremely complex.”

Recognising the increasing global focus on sustainability, traceability, and transparency in the fashion industry, TextileGenesis has identified 27 regulations worldwide that address these concerns.

These regulations require brands to have a precise overview of their supply chain, ensuring transparency and confirming that materials do not come from regions with high environmental or social impact.

TextileGenesis says it has already been instrumental in enabling fashion companies to trace sustainable materials throughout its supply chain via its innovative traceability mechanism.

Gautam highlights the significance of the new module, adding: “The addition of this new module is a huge advantage for users of our platform, as they can now consolidate all the information they need to ensure the traceability of the materials in their product range, whether the garments are made from sustainable or conventional materials.

“The solution enables them to meet the challenge of total traceability, thanks to a single platform that guarantees the highest levels of reliability and security for the data collected, without having to use two separate systems.”

In October TextileGenesis signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Cotton Association (ICA), to increase digital collaboration and promote ethical trade and sustainability within the fashion and textile industry.
